The painting depicts travelers going down the Tokaido from Edo walked to Totsuka and Hodogaya instead of Shinagawa in a day. On the other hand, after climbing the Tokaido, the Daimyo procession reassembled and repaired the procession in Shinagawa in advance of climbing Mt. Fuji.
